Description
Shoulder bag made out of one of my old threadbare pairs of jeans, a 30-year-old pillow case and the shoulder strap of a defunct laptop bag. Almost 100% recycling here.
(Only the sewing thread was new...)
Size: 54 x 36cm (21.26 x 14.17")
The bag was made in a joint family effort:
I provided the idea and the jeans (I hate to throw away clothes that have potential to be used for crafting projects) and cut a few straight edges, my mother provided the pillow case (she was glad to be finally rid of it ), the shoulder strap was from my youngest brother's laptop bag and my father sewed and provided all the other little tidbits we needed to finish the bag.
It's not perfect - some seams could have been straighter - but hey, if I had attempted to sew it, I'd have done it worse, as I haven't got the slightest clue about sewing with a sewing machine. And who needs perfect anyway, when it's unique?
I'm quite happy with the way the bag turned out. And I love all the pockets it has: 6 in total. 2 in the back, 3 in the front and 1 behind the fly, which is as big as half the bag (that one was my father's idea and it amuses me to no end ). The belt loops are pretty useful, too.
It's not truly finished yet. I still need to sew in the lining (by hand, because the belt loops prevent using the sewing machine). And because we intended to give the bag a flap - only to find out it covers all the good stuff, so we decided against it last-minute - I now have nothing to close the bag with. It'll get 2 push buttons later, when I'm back at my parents' again in March the soonest (this time we didn't have all the necessary supplies).
I'll update the pics when it's 100% finished.
I may make another one some time in the future and I'm pretty sure I'll do a few things differently then. I do have a little experience in making pant bags now.
